~Reader's POV~

I was working my shift with Edward¹ until our boss said for one of us to “go take care of Pytko.” Pytko was a girl named Theresa. I told Edward I would take care of it, but only because I had a small crush on her.
I walked past February², Daniel³ and Greg's⁴ rooms until I saw her room. A placard that said “Pytko, Theresa” had been what I was looking for. I slowly opened the door.

“Hello, There--”

“Terezi.” she cut me off to correct my “mistake”. She was in a three-month long coma and dreamed the whole time she was a troll named “Terezi Pyrope” and the other patients were trolls as well, with names such as “Kanaya Maryam”, “ Karkat Vantas”, and “Nepeta Lejion”. I just brushed it off and said, “Right. Terezi. How are you today, Terezi?”

“I'm doing well. What about you, (m/n)?” she asked politely.

“I'm good. Just a little tired..” I said, cracking my knuckles.

“Have you gotten any rest lately?” she asked, giving me a look.

“Not really.. I work late now and it's really tiring.”

“ I'm sorry!” She said, in that sweet voice of her's, which just made me smile.

“It isn't your fault, The-- Terezi.” I said.

“Well, that's good.. If it was my fault, I would feel really bad.” she frowned slightly.

I saw her scratch and bite marks. She always scratched and bit herself, thinking she would expose her “teal blood”. She had a band-aid wrap around her head, where she scratched her head when she would claim she had sharp horns, which she said were very sensitive. Instead of treating her rudely like the doctors, I was kind and listened to her stories. Her stories were very amusing and well told, like they came directly out of a book.

“So, Terezi..”

“Yes?”

“You drew all of that?” I said, pointing my finger in a circular motion to her chalk drawings on the wall.

“Yep! Do you like them?” she asked with eagerness in her voice.

“They're very nice.” I said. She couldn't tell I was lying, like I always do when she asks about her art. I didn't want to hurt her feelings or anything, she was a really sweet girl. Sure, she is a little confused, but she's still a really sweet girl.

“Thank you!” she said with a big smile on her freckled face.

“Of course.” I smiled back.

I watched her bite into her skin, making herself bleed.

“(m/n)! Look! My blood is teal!” she said, keeping the large smile that was plastered on her face.

“Whoa, that's so cool! I've never met someone with teal blood before!” I said, trying to show I was approving what she said.

“Well, Terezi Pyrope is one of a kind!” she said, wrapping her bandaged arms around me, giving me a hug. I proudly returned it and smiled. Most people would find me crazy for liking a girl with a mental disorder, who believed she was a grey skinned, teal blooded troll from a made up world called Alternia.

We let go of each other and I continued talking to her, listening to her stories about her adventures with her friends as they played a game (from her imagination) she said was called “Sburb”. I was polite about it and asked her questions about her “hive” as she called it which she said has the equivalence of a human house, and such.

“Thank you for visiting me today, (m/n)! I hope you will come back tomorrow to see me!” she said sweetly.

“Don't worry, I'll come back tomorrow and talk to you. I'm really interested in your stories about Alternia and playing Sburb.” I said. That much was true. I really did like her stories about these things, they reminded me of stories my late mother used to tell me when I couldn't sleep.

“That's great! I have plenty of them to share with you! I'll see you tomorrow, (m/n)!” she said to me with a smile.

“Bye!” I said, smiling brightly. I was looking forward to tomorrow.
